Technology in the classroom is anything but a bad thing.  I believe there are limits to the amount of technology that should be used, but it should be incorporated into the classroom.  It provides a good tool for students that can assist in their learning.  If taken advantage of in the right ways, technology can facilitate positive learning and develop genuine skills that students will need in all areas of work.

I believe students will become better visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners through technology.  They can have hands on experiences, along with many activities that can provide valuable visuals and sound examples.  These are great additions to other strategies that are included in teaching.  The students will also be learning about the world they live in by using technology.  They can experience news things and learn about what’s happening in the world, while learning about how to use important technologies.

Technology in my classroom would be useful.  In music, there are many ways to incorporate technology.  At the elementary level, the technology included would look more like computers that allow students to play interactive music games, cd players that can play song examples for the students, and possibly gadgets like an iPod that can also allow for interactive, individual learning.  At the middle and high school level, the technology included would look more like recording software that’s used to record the group singing or playing, then played back for comments and assessment.  Also, other technologies that could be used to facilitate learning would be digital keyboards (so they do not have to be tuned), video cameras for assessment purposes, music notation software to present examples of melodies or rhythmic patterns for practice, and cd players or iPods for musical examples or playback.  These are just a few of the technologies that can be used in the music classroom.

Technology has many advantages in education.  Ultimately, it provides new and different opportunities for students to learn.  It adds to the already effective strategies used in teaching.  It can help facilitate many different methods, especially appealing to the multiple intelligences.  Overall, I believe that technology should be incorporated into the music classroom because it serves as such a great opportunity for students to learn in new ways and become more accustomed to the world that they live in.
